Holly Minto, singer with Liverpool’s rising alt-rock unit Crawlers, returned to a significant moment in her songwriting career while recording this Apple Music Home Session. “We chose to do ‘I Can’t Drive’ because it was one of the first songs I wrote with acoustic guitar that I felt got everything out with just the bare arrangements of chords and guitars,” she tells Apple Music. “So being able to strip it back in this setting felt so right. Me and Amy [Woodall, guitarist] really got gritty with the arrangements.” They also took the opportunity to give a much-loved anthem some new life, slowing the original’s riff-powered charge to reveal more of its emotional core. “Amy and I are the biggest Killers fans,” says Minto. “We honestly believe ‘When You Were Young’ is one of the best songs lyrically and feeling-wise. We tried to really take it to how powerful the lyrics are, played around with different inversions chords—very inspired by Phoebe Bridgers. I used to love doing arrangements in high school and university, so being able to play around with a written song, especially one so close to our hearts, was so much fun.”
