Wanderer

Wanderer

The composer and pianist’s second album of existential, original compositions, Ilya Beshevli’s picturesque Wanderer is a gallivanting, curious exploration of the relationship between a man and his city—in this case, Moscow. As pensive as it is visual, Beshevli’s piano has free reign here, exploring the feelings bound up with bourgeois life. “To Solitude” takes up the refreshing nature of a bucolic hike out of the city, while the jazzy, expanded chords and arpeggios of “Memory of Sun”—as well as its improvisational-feeling melodies—provoke the whimsicality of a well-timed daydream. Equal parts Yann Tiersen and Clint Mansell, Wanderer looks to take listeners far, far away via their imaginations.
