This singles collection shows Oasis at their best, with a run of Noel Gallagher’s most life-affirming and rowdy melodies, sung with scathing disdain and a beautiful sneer by brother Liam. The thug rockers chug viciously (“Shakermaker”, “Some Might Say”), the ballads are starry-eyed and big of heart (“Wonderwall”, “Stop Crying Your Heart Out”) and there’s an eternal glow of confidence to those streamlined British super-rock songs they’d use as a fanfare for a new album (“Lyla”, “The Shock of the Lightning”).
