Released just two months after the formidable Depression Cherry, Thank Your Lucky Stars continues scaling Beach House’s grand, melancholic dream-pop back to its roots in dim Baltimore basements. Bittersweet but never angsty, ethereal but strangely grounded, Stars weaves together heavy-lidded disco (“All Your Yeahs”), '50s-style slowdance ballads (“Somewhere Tonight”), and spacey shoegaze (“One Thing”). It's an intoxicating—and slightly intoxicated—sound led by Victoria Legrand’s husky tenor and the insistent tick-tock of the band’s dusty old drum machines.
