Not many electronic records balance respectful homage and innovative freshness with the same verve as Disclosure’s debut. Over the course of an all-killer set, Surrey-raised sibling producers Guy and Howard Lawrence manage to make something new from gathered elements of deep house, ‘90s garage and unabashedly pop-centric R&B. Of course, much of Settle’s magnetism can be attributed to a cast list of scene-stealing guest vocalists—be it Sam Smith on the wildly soulful “Latch” or London Grammar’s Hannah Davies, floating ethereally aboard sunrise anthem “Help Me Lose My Mind”. But the Lawrences sparkle just as brightly on the instrumental tracks that are strictly a family affair. And “F For You” (which features Howard on vocals after Guy secretly finished a version intended to be a demo) proves these brothers are fit to both protect the dance music flame and, now and then, douse it in an enlivening spill of gasoline.
