Quantum Jumping

Quantum Jumping

A diary-like chronicle of songs written from age 16 onwards, daine’s debut mixtape mingles overcast emo and futuristic pop to cathartic effect. The versatile Filipino Australian artist turns introspection into empowerment on tracks like “weekends”, about trying not to text someone while also not wanting to be alone. daine even flexes rap-like swagger on the Lonelyspeck-produced “IDC”, railing against not just its subject but their family, too. Spidery guitar melodies from Chicago emo revivalist Into It. Over It. thread through “comes and goes”, before the ghosting-inspired “new ground” seizes upon anthemic alt-rock as a parting act of self-assurance. Informed in part by living with chronic illness, Quantum Jumping is an unflinching portrait of young doubt, complete with frustrated references to posers and social paradigms. daine has described the release as a “tombstone for [her] adolescence”, which only further piques interest for the next chapter of her music and life.
