Mean Old Man
This piano rebel’s second duets album finds him tackling classics—often with the artists who made them famous. Mick Jagger helps turn the Stones’ “Dead Flowers” into even more of a croaky country lark, while John Fogerty lends supportive harmonies to the rootsy “Bad Moon Rising”. There are some novel new voices in play, too: Sheryl Crow and Jon Brion moonlight on a perky, ivory-tickling makeover of “You Are My Sunshine”. But even amid all those marquee names, Lewis’ world-weary voice is still the sturdy star.
