A riot-starting indie quintet’s enthrallingly high-strung debut. The band’s uncertain energy is the great thrill here: drums roll and stutter, riffs lash out petulantly and songs careen, stall and switch direction. “X-Ray”’s adrenalising dynamics and “Latchmere”’s intoxicating rush explain how one 2006 show got so out of hand the group were briefly barred from playing in Brighton, but the lovestruck shuffle of “Toothpaste Kisses” displays sensitivity befitting Orlando Weeks’s expressively fragile vocal.
