The Italian pianist Ludovico Einaudi incorporates both cinematic and literary aspects into his memorable, atmospheric pieces and has based his projects on works by writers including Virginia Woolf. For In a Time Lapse, Einaudi seeks out American poet and philosopher Henry David Thoreau. The track “Time Lapse” percolates in a primordial electronic fog before a rush of piano, carefully placed electric guitar lines and sustained strings. “Discovery at Night” carries the melodic style of 1970s piano-based rock, while “Waterways” captures the constant flow of water through a gentle, synthesised bass drum. Violinist Daniel Hope solos on “Life”, “Orbits”, “Experience” and “Underwood”.
