On his eighth album, Matt Andersen pulls out every trick in his book, tapping his foot through mellow, organ-tinged soul (“The Gift”), sunny, countrified folk rock (“Let’s Get Back”) and retro-‘50s sock-hop slow dances (“Last Surrender”). Honest Man’s incredibly lush instrumentation shines bright, but it’s all in service of Andersen’s otherworldly pipes, which will have you selling your soul to rock ‘n’ roll during the BTO-channelling blues jam “Who Are You Listening To?”
