Honest Life

Six albums in (good luck searching out the first three, mind—she’s withdrawn them) and Courtney Marie Andrews is armed with the hard-earned lyrical clarity and sparkling songcraft of a country great. That’s how good this album is. The spectral “Rookie Dreaming” manages a steely wistfulness, “Irene” is a gorgeous, big-hearted and forthright pep talk (“But keep your grace, Irene/Don’t go falling in love with yourself”) and “15 Highway Lines” the slow-burning emotional climax. It’s a record that demands to be experienced from start to finish.
