The Acacia Strain's eighth record is a bone-crushing procession of doom-saturated deathcore, fusing the relentless velocity of punk rock with the blunt force of sludge metal. On "Worthless", ink-stained guitars bubble up like sticky metallic tar, while the jackhammering “Dark Harvest” works itself into an unstoppable post-hardcore stampede. The aptly named album closer "Cold Gloom" is a nine-minute downpour of oozing guitar riffs, made all the more threatening by vocalist Vincent Bennett's pained, hellish howls.
