The 1975’s frontman Matt Healy has said he’s intrigued by the idea of instant attraction, and that fascination underpins his band’s debut album. Seductive hooks are a constant as they draw multiple genres around a foundation of high-production rock and synth-pop. “Girls” is a straightforward lunge at stadium glory but the songs work best when chopped-up R&B (“M.O.N.E.Y.”), itchy rhythms (“Chocolate”) and tranquilised dubstep (“Menswear”) mottle the gloss.
