9 Songs, 42 Minutes

EDITORS’ NOTES

The band’s gift for soaring melodies is evident throughout Ghost Stories—particularly on the magnetic first single, “Magic.” Chris Martin’s heart-rending falsetto floats along in a haze of synth-washed ambience (as on the entrancing Kid A–influenced “Midnight”) or sparely accompanied by acoustic instruments (“Oceans,” “O”). Ghost Stories demonstrates the expressive power of understatement.

Can't Wait - But price?

Love the new singles, looks like some great songs on their way but £9 for 9 songs?!?!

Um....

Only 9 songs? And it would be cheaper to buy the songs individually lol.

Painfully disappointing

Cast your mind back to how you felt the first time you listened to Parachutes, now imagine the complete opposite to that feeling, and voila- Ghost Stories. I've loved Coldplay from day one. I've grown up with them and every one of their albums has provided a soundtrack for a particular moment in my life. But this, regrettably, is so far removed from the Coldplay I love I can hardly believe it. And I'm not talking about the way they've changed their sound. All great bands grow and push the boundaries of their creativity, so I have no gripe with the way they've evolved in that respect. However, while their other ablums are so diverse and take you on a journey, this is just plain boring and, though it pains me to say it, depressing. It's 40 minutes of weak lyrics, soppiness and whining. Won't be buying it. Might listen to their earlier stuff again to try and erase this from my memory!
