The multi-talented Camille and Julie Berthollet play several instruments and even sing on this intimate album indulging their eclectic musical tastes. Jazz, rap, chanson and pop all get a look-in on a spirited collection whose guests range from French pop duo Madame Monsieur to rapper Insa Sané. It all works brilliantly, thanks to the Berthollets’ laidback approach: Stromae’s 2013 hit “Tous les mêmes” becomes a sophisticated tango, while Michel Polnareff’s “Lettre à France” takes on a gorgeous Baroque mantle. And, of course, there’s some Johnny Hallyday, the revered and much-missed French rocker, from whose “Que je t’aime” the Berthollets craft a beautiful lament.
