Disraeli Gears, Cream’s second album, is where their songwriting hits a supernatural patch. There’s a witchy funk to songs like “Strange Brew” and “Outside Woman Blues”, while the band’s uncanny power-trio interplay comes to the fore on the dazzling (and very 1967) freak rock of “Swlabr” and the mystical folk-pop of “Dance the Night Away”. The darkest incantations are saved for “Sunshine of Your Love”, where one of hard rock’s most demonic riffs is used with lascivious intent.
