Ezra Collective’s autumn 2024 album, Dance, No One’s Watching, is, as its title suggests, a celebration of losing yourself on the dance floor. On the album, the London jazz quintet search for their own definition of dance music. It’s fitting, then, that this DJ mix—released shortly after the album’s arrival—is a blend of the music that gets Ezra Collective moving. Or, as the band’s leader Femi Koleoso tells Apple Music, “a soundtrack to some of the tunes we pray we hear when we’re on a dance floor, from the Shrine [Lagos music venue New Afrika Shrine] to London and everything in between”. Those movement-inducing sounds come courtesy of Fela Kuti, Donna Summer, Amy Winehouse, Pat Thomas & Kwashibu Area Band, Full Crate and Ezra Collective themselves. So, press play and, well, dance like no one’s watching.
