Editors' Notes A new chapter in the illustrious history of one of the world’s most famous choirs begins. British conductor and organist Daniel Hyde, who succeeded the late Stephen Cleobury as King’s Director of Music in 2019, takes charge of the music-making for this attractive album, recorded live on Christmas Eve 2019. Heard for the first time is Philip Moore’s “The Angel Gabriel”, a lovely carol dedicated to Cleobury’s memory. Alongside the traditional carols—often arranged or featuring descants by many of Hyde’s predecessors—there are also works by such composers as John Rutter (“Candlelight Carol”) and Andrew Carter (“A Maiden Most Gentle”). Across it all, the famous King’s acoustic adds its own magic.
