EDITORS’ NOTES

Art-rock adventure fuses with arena grandeur on the band’s first great leap forward. Given its recording was plagued by writer’s block and creative dead ends, Radiohead’s second album is remarkably confident and daring. The three guitarists build mesmerising layers within haunted balladry (“Fake Plastic Trees”), a thrilling Frankenstein’s monster of folk, grunge, psych and jazz (“Just”), and stunning, numinous closer “Street Spirit (Fade Out)”. Thom Yorke’s lyrics areequally nuanced and searching, creating an elegiac undertow from his anxieties about consumerism, narcissism, and the mind-melt of sudden fame.

The BEST radiohead album

Critics and some fans may say Ok computer is their finest work but this is the real height of their musical genius. Every track stands alone as a masterpiece of musical creativity. Every track carries you on a ride that pleases your ears and soul. Tracks like the bends, bones and just make you want to sing out loud where as songs like fake plastic trees, high and dry and nice dream make you feel emotionally relaxed. There's a song for everyone open minded person on THE BENDS. For me stand out tracks include... All of them.

Incredible album

There are very few albums that can stand the test of time, but this certainly does! Can’t quite believe it’s 24 years old this year, still sounds as good now as it did then. I have recently introduced them to my 15 year old daughter who is now a fan and also rates this album as highly as I do. Favourite album of all time. ‘Fake plastic trees’ is my favourite.
