Blessing: The Music of Paul Mealor

Blessing: The Music of Paul Mealor

Composer Paul Mealor first came to prominence when his motet “Ubi Caritas” was sung at the wedding of William and Kate. Here’s a chance to hear more of his choral output, beginning with the roof-raising “Let All the World in Every Corner Sing”, replete with coruscating organ and pealing bells. From there, Voce take us on a sumptuous, brilliantly sung pilgrimage to Mealor’s meltingly tender “In the Bleak Midwinter”, his “Magnificat” and “Nunc Dimittis” contrasting a soothing mysticism with moments of pure jubilation, and onward to the “Ave Verum Corpus” that rises to an ecstatic climax before sinking back to a hushed prayerfulness. The final track, “Blessing”, with rippling piano accompaniment, brings this gorgeous programme to a sublime close.
