Bach

J.S. Bach adored the lute so much, he arranged one of his greatest works, Cello Suite No. 5, for the instrument. The lute provided a larger harmonic canvas for him to enrich harmonies that had only been suggested in the cello original. The result was, in effect, an entirely new work. Thomas Dunford follows in Bach’s footsteps to complement this work, arranging Cello Suite No. 1 and the masterly, epic solo violin Chaconne for lute—and doing so with something of the great composer’s skill and imagination. And he plays with a natural, lithe grace, each note and chord stunningly articulated, all captured in warm, intimate sound.
