A tender, stripped-down version of Justin Bieber’s “Ghost” gave Michael Aldag the opportunity to pay some important respects. “It reminds me of my granddad, who passed during the pandemic,” the Liverpudlian tells Apple Music. “It’s one of my favourite songs, sonically, it sounds so clean and beautiful. I hope I’ve done it justice.” Aldag built up a cult following during the 2020 and 2021 lockdowns with his wry electro-pop inventions and charismatic online presence—and fans will also delight in the smooth acoustic reworking of his 2022 single “Teenage Drama” that completes this Home Session. The toxic love anthem also captures how Aldag—like so many of us—felt caught in a maelstrom of emotions during such challenging times. “I would wake up early, every morning, and run along the beach,” he says, “trying to think of lyrics and song ideas, then I’d spend the rest of the day trying to produce them. But obviously there were also days I sank into my couch and played Xbox until the self-loathing swallowed me alive.”
