Apple Music Home Session: Ezra Collective

“In a year with so much travelling, it’s made me fall in love with London in such a deep way,” Ezra Collective’s Femi Koleoso tells Apple Music. “London is at the very core of who we are as a band.” On the jazz quintet’s triumphant Apple Music Home Session, Koleoso and company enhance the bright themes of second album Where I’m Meant to Be for a striking love letter to home. First up, a free-flowing rendition of album cut and tribute to the capital’s sound-system culture “Ego Killah”, followed by a bold reworking of The Clash’s classic “London Calling”. “We tried to make it our own whilst respecting the original,” Femi says about the group’s cover version. “We changed up the beat, made it more Afrobeat, which is true to my way of playing the drums, and generally just had fun with it. I played with [former Clash bassist] Paul Simonon this year, and I was star-struck. He is one of the very greatest.”
