American Football (2)

American Football broke up shortly after releasing their 1999 debut, which slowly became a word-of-mouth emo touchstone. Their second album builds on and deepens their template of twinkling melodies, slowly rising guitar swells and jazzy chord changes. The echo-laden circular guitar patterns of "I've Been So Lost for So Long” and the descending, delicately plucked musings and restrained drumming of "Home Is Where the Haunt Is" demonstrate a new sense of maturity, in songs that still work as perfect soundtracks to feelings-filled sundown walks.
