In her debut album for Decca, soprano Aida Garifullina tackles French and Russian treasures. She grasps Rachmaninoff’s rhapsodic “Siren” with incredible ease, her strong voice blending with the orchestra as colours do on a painter’s palette. Her command of the a cappella passages of Lakmé seems effortless and almost improvisational.
