A Place To Fall Apart

A Place To Fall Apart

Lisa Mitchell’s first album in almost six years finds the singer-songwriter in confessional form. Themes of breaking down oneself to facilitate growth and rebirth abound, most clearly in “Supporting Your Unravelling”, Mitchell singing, “I recommend supporting your own unravelling.” Elsewhere, the climate crisis and 2019’s Global Climate Strike inspired “I Believe in Kindness”, while the very act of being alive informs “Zombie”, written as Mitchell enjoyed an idyllic Berlin summer. Musically, the Melbourne-based artist weaves a rich sonic tapestry that merges pastoral folk (“Summoning”, “She Is of the Earth”) and sultry, piano-driven moments (“Blue”, “Dreaming, Swimming”) with stabs of earthy acoustic pop (“Zombie”). Falling apart never sounded so good.
