Waterparks are one of the most adventurous rock bands around, which makes them difficult (if not impossible) to pigeonhole. Co-founded in the early 2010s by charismatic vocalist-guitarist Awsten Knight, the Houston group dabbled in pop-punk and ’90s alt-rock throwbacks on their 2016 debut LP, Double Dare. From there, Waterparks branched out considerably, bringing radical lyrical honesty to a variety of genres. This includes effervescent emo-pop (“Telephone”), hip-hop-inspired alt-rock (“Lowkey As Hell”) and upbeat electro-rock ("Numb"). The band continued expanding their sonic palette on 2023’s “F**K ABOUT IT”, a moody collaboration with blackbear that boasts an insistent groove and kaleidoscopic production.
