Small Faces: Deep Cuts

Small Faces: Deep Cuts

A trawl of their '60s albums shows that Small Faces had exceptional range and were remarkably prescient. Going from the proto–Led Zep of “You Need Loving” to the pre–DJ Shadow widescreen grooviness of “Ogden's Nut Gone Flake” is a big jump. But not as far as the leap from “Up the Wooden Hills to Bedfordshire”—a whimsical ode to sleep—to a bruising soul slammer like “Wham Bam, Thank You Mam”.
