Los Piratas Essentials

Los Piratas Essentials

Few bands in Spanish rock have juggled mainstream motifs and indie experimentalism as successfully as Los Piratas. Breaking into the rock scene in the early the '90s, the band—led by singer/songwriter Iván Ferreiro—established an early sound based on memorable pop hooks and prominent rock guitars, with '95's Poligamia cementing their reputation and fanbase. But it was albums like Ultrasónica and, ultimately, 2003's Relax, that saw them explore new, grander horizons, with gloomy and glitchy electronics flirting with whip-smart songwriting and expanded orchestral arrangements.
