Twin sisters Lee and Paula Bowman lead the robust vocal charge for Jetty Road, a modern country group from Melbourne. Their layered voices give even more oomph to the band’s pop-laced anthems: 2019’s “Because We Can” rivals the fist-pumping celebratory spirit of Sheppard, while the same year’s heartbreak anthem “Bumps and Bruises” evokes early Taylor Swift. When the sisters sing in tandem without accompaniment during the latter, it gives an emotional song its most impactful moment. Flanked by lead guitarist Julian Sammut and multi-instrumentalist Simon Ross—who left the band in 2013—the Bowmans mingle rustic country flavours with contemporary trappings to great effect, making meaningful pit stops in 1980s-style heartland rock along the way.
