Sepultura's mix of thrash rage and burly grooves revolutionised modern metal. Among their first acolytes were Korn, who draw from the band's syncopated riffs for the nu-metal hatefest “Blind”, and Machine Head, whose “Davidian” slows thrash to a pummelling chug while adding brutal grit. Offshoot band Soulfly are also key; the industrial “Eye for an Eye” carries on their predecessor's innovative use of frenzied Brazilian polyrhythms.
