IDLES Essentials

IDLES Essentials

The image of IDLES singer, Joe Talbot, weeping during the band's searing performance of “Danny Nedelko” at Glastonbury 2019 encapsulated the volatile cocktail of garage punk and raw emotion that would eventually launch the snarling group to stardom. Formed in Bristol a decade prior, the band took its time honing the punk riffs and screaming hooks that gave shape to its 2017 sweat-soaked debut, Brutalism. Talbot's poignant songwriting also set IDLES on the path of social commentary, tackling themes of stale conformity (“Model Village”), labour rights (“Mother”) and oppressive patriarchy (“Samaritans”) with a wicked sense of humour.
