Hudson Mohawke: Influences

Hudson Mohawke: Influences

Electronic producer and Kanye collaborator Hudson Mohawke, aka Scotland’s Ross Birchard, has always had a restlessly creative spirit. But 2020’s glut of newly released material—the hard-drive treasures dating back to the mid-2000s that make up B.B.H.E., Poom Gems and Airborne Lard—is a glimpse into just how wildly expressive and varied his production aesthetic has become over the years. It’s not, of course, without taking inspiration from countless sources. HudMo assembled his own Influences playlist with “some songs that I was listening to and playing a lot in my DJ sets while making the songs from the three projects," he tells Apple Music. The tracks here, which range from ’70s soul-funk to hip-hop instrumentals to techno and house to high-BPM happy hardcore, represent “memories of some incredible times in my life, and what seemed like endless, joyful parties and after-parties around the world. Many of the songs influenced a lot of my musical output during that period, and still do. A lot of them remain all-time favourites of mine to this day.”
