Cœur de pirate wears her heart on her sleeve: The Montreal singer born Béatrice Martin is covered in tattoos that chart landmarks in her life, just as her songs do. At 19 she released her eponymous debut and she swiftly moved beyond its simple ballads to 2011's weightier Blonde. She showed still more versatility in 2014 when she covered classic torch songs for the Canadian TV show Trauma and wrote the soundtrack to the video game Child of Light. These fed into 2015's Roses, her first bilingual album—a set of complex, empowering ballads set to ebullient orchestral indie pop.
