Benjamin Grosvenor Essentials

Benjamin Grosvenor Essentials

Classical music is chock-a-block with child prodigies, but British pianist Benjamin Grosvenor—whose first public solo recital in 2003 at age 10 featured him both on piano and cello—has built a career built on very adult restraint. From the outset he’s eschewed the performative pyrotechnics so many young musicians employ, instead developing his career with undiminished elegance and precision. He also distinguishes himself with an abiding interest in classical music history, deeply researching previous renderings of any piece he commits to tape. He’s an excellent soloist with a charged feeling for Ravel and Liszt, but he’s also made his mark in orchestral settings, particularly his 2020 recording of Chopin’s concertos.
