About Snatam Kaur

A leader in global music fusion, New Age singer-songwriter and peace activist Snatam Kaur is known for blending the roots of Sikh melodies with a modern Western sound. ∙ Kaur developed a love for music at age six, when she was introduced to Sikh culture and kirtan chants while visiting India with her family. ∙ Her father, a former Grateful Dead manager, recruited legendary guitarist Bob Weir to coach Kaur for her first festival performance in 1990. ∙ She made her recording debut with the 2002 album Prem, which she described as the launching point for her signature spiritual sound. ∙ In 2012, she performed a private concert for long-time admirer Oprah Winfrey, who said that the show was “one of the most amazing surprises of my life.” ∙ Reaching No. 3 on Billboard’s New Age chart, her 2014 release, Light of the Naam: Morning Chants, remains her highest-charting album. ∙ Her 2018 LP, Beloved, was nominated for a Best New Age Album Grammy, and she performed one of its songs, “Darashan Maago,” at the awards ceremony.
