About Langa Langa Stars
One of Zaire's top bands of the early-'90s, the Langa Langa Stars represented the collaborative efforts of the country's best musicians and vocalists. Initially known as 7 Patrons de Langa Langa Stars, the group was formed by ex-Zaiko Langa Langa vocalist Evoloko Jocker, shortly after his departure from Papa Wemba's Band. Several members of the group, including vocalists Bozi Boziana and Djuna Djanana, had worked with Jocker in Zaiko Langa Langa. Vocalist Dindo Yogo had previously performed with Viva La Musica and the Etumba Na Nguaka Orchestra and joined Zaiko Langa Langa after the breakup of the Langa Langa Stars. Additional members included bassist Dindo Mali and the late vocalist Esperant Kissangani, formerly with Viva La Musica and Taby National. Despite their popularity, the Langa Langa Stars had a very brief existence, dissolving after Jocker embarked on a solo career in 1986. ~ Craig Harris
