Jaani

Lyricist and composer Jaani has turned his adopted moniker into a household name among Hindi and Punjabi music fans across the world. A master of the emotionally charged love song, Jaani—along with his long-time musical partner, the singer and fellow composer B. Praak—has created chart-toppers for everyone from Afsana Khan to Arijit Singh. The hits have been constant since 2013 when the duo helmed soulful ballad “Soch” for Harrdy Sandhu, an artist for whom they’ve subsequently penned several uptempo smashes, including “Kya Baat Ay” and “Bijlee Bijlee”. Either in collaboration with B. Praak or working independently, Jaani has collaborated with many of the Punjabi music industry’s hottest acts, writing both pop and film soundtrack tunes for the likes of Diljit Dosanjh, Karan Aujla, Ammy Virk, Gippy Grewal, Jassie Gill and Sukh-E Muzical Doctorz, all of which have been streamed in the millions. Recreations of earlier tracks and original compositions for Bollywood have followed, with B. Praak and Jaani winning a pair of Filmfare Awards for best music director for their contributions to the soundtracks of the Hindi movies Shershaah (2021) and ANIMAL (2023). Turning entrepreneur, Jaani teamed up with film-maker Arvindr Khaira to launch the Mohali-based record company Desi Melodies in 2019. Under the label, which signed an exclusive distribution deal with the Universal Music Group in 2020, B. Praak and Jaani released the collaborative album Zohrajabeen in 2023. Meanwhile, after tallying over 100 songwriting credits, Jaani has strengthened his association with the Punjabi film industry: He made his acting debut in the 2021 romantic drama Qismat 2 and ventured into movie production with horror comedy Jatt Nuu Chudail Takri in 2024.
