About Eleanor Tomlinson

Primarily known for her role in the television period drama Poldark as well as her folk-influenced 2018 covers album, Tales from Home, Eleanor Tomlinson is an English actress and singer. Born in London in 1992, she moved with her family to Yorkshire when she was young. Interested in the arts from an early age, she excelled at stage and theater throughout her high-school years and made her move into acting while studying. Her first major appearance was in the 2006 American mystery film The Illusionist, in which she portrayed the young version of Jessica Biel's character, Sophie. She went on to appear in the 2008 coming-of-age comedy Angus, Thongs, and Perfect Snogging. The year 2010 saw her appear in Tim Burton's adaptation of Alice in Wonderland, in which she played one of the Cathaway sisters. She came to further prominence in 2013 when she appeared in the action-adventure movie Jack the Giant Slayer as well as British television dramas Death Comes to Pemberley and The White Queen. The following year she starred alongside Stephen Rea in the sci-fi motion picture The Curse of Styria. In 2015 she began to portray the character of Demelza Poldark in the British-American period drama Poldark, which brought her to wider recognition. She went on to star in the 2016 thriller movie Alleycats and provided voice performance for the character of Adeline in the 2017 animated movie Loving Vincent, a biographical drama about Vincent Van Gogh. In 2018 she released her first album, Tales from Home -- a collection of folk-influenced covers of songs by the likes of Carole King and Simon & Garfunkel. The effort was released via Sony Masterworks and was produced by English film score composer and conductor Anne Dudley. ~ Rob Wacey
