About Dori Grayson
Dori Grayson made three singles for the Murco label from 1967-70, the last of them appearing on the Murco subsidiary Peermont. She was a competent but average Southern soul singer, recording in several styles without coming across outstanding material. "Sweet Lovin' Man," for instance, had an uptempo groove reminiscent of Stax acts like Sam & Dave; "Try Love," though released in 1967, had a sound that recalled early-to-mid-1960s Mary Wells. She sounded more comfortable with somewhat Motown-influenced tunes than she did with deep Southern soul. All six sides from her three Murco/Peermont 45s are on the Kent compilation Shreveport Southern Soul: The Murco Story. ~ Richie Unterberger
