23 Skidoo

About 23 Skidoo

The British post-punk act 23 Skidoo were perched at the intersection between early industrial music and dance funk when they first appeared in 1980. Equally influenced by Cabaret Voltaire (who produced some of their early tracks) and the Nigerian polymath Fela Kuti, the band released several atmospheric and dissonant albums including 1983's THE CULLING IS COMING and 1984's URBAN GAMELAN. In the mid-1980s, brothers Johnny and Alex Turnbull shifted the group's focus to include hip-hop and modern jazz, forming the underground dance label Ronin. Both the band and the label folded in 2003.
