About Senses Fail

Part of the emo explosion that turned the genre mainstream during the early 2000s, the New Jersey band Senses Fail is still carrying the post-hardcore flag nearly 20 years later. ∙ Senses Fail was formed in 2002 by James “Buddy” Nielsen—the only original member who’s still with the group—and took their name from Hinduism’s idea of what happens on the path to Nirvana. ∙ From the Depths of Dreams—a repackaged version of their first two demo CDs— unexpectedly broke into the Billboard 200 chart in 2003. ∙ With a title inspired by a Charles Bukowski poem, the group’s debut album, 2004’s Let It Enfold You, sold more than 600,000 copies worldwide. ∙ The video for “Buried a Lie” (the lead single from Let It Enfold You) was filmed on the set of soap opera The Guiding Light (Nielsen’s mother was previously an actor on the show). ∙ A fan favorite that Senses Fail played in its entirety on a 2017 tour, 2006’s Still Searching is their highest-charting album to date, reaching No. 34 on the Billboard 200. ∙ In 2016, Nielsen formed a side-project, Speak the Truth… Even If Your Voice Shakes, with three former members of the emo band Finch, and their debut album surfaced the following year.
