Dirge

Dirge

A self-titled record is often a statement, one telling the listener that this is definitively the artist, warts and all. This is certainly true for Mumbai-based doom and post-metal merchants DIRGE, who extend their sludge-heavy sound across each of their eponymous second album’s four tracks to show a collective discomfort with the world around us. This follow-up to 2018’s AH Puch spans more than 42 minutes and offers relentless riffs, variously rough and smooth vocals—and apocalyptic sentiments. “Condemned” is a slow-burn opener and highlight “Malignant” is a 13-minute journey of hypnotic power.
