The ironically named No Te Va Gustar (translated "you're not going to like it") began as a teenaged guitar trio in Uruguay in 1994 and expanded into an ambitious nine-piece reggae-pop sensation a few years later with the help of horns and percussion. Like The Police, NTVG features a charismatic, laidback vocalist (singer/songwriter Emiliano Brancciari) and a sound that oscillates between simple, direct hard rock and more-than-credible heavy reggae. Unlike The Police, NTVG's special sauce contains splashes of candombe, milonga, murga and other percussively nifty Latin styles.
