One of the original voices of minimalism and tape loops, Terry Riley created music of stunning possibility and brightness. Taking up modal figures, he pioneered a new sound with In C, which generated an iridescent aura with its slowly revolving colours and rhythms, relying on 53 brief, modular passages played in the same key. A Rainbow in Curved Air saw Riley experimenting with overdubbing, summoning his mastery of electronic instruments to weave a vast, glitchy tapestry layered with oscillating synthesisers, atmospheric keyboards and airy percussion.
