Vladimir Horowitz Essentials

The Russian-born Horowitz moved to the States in 1939 (11 years after his triumphant Carnegie Hall debut). His almost superhuman technique and facility could sell out concerts in minutes, and his recordings sold by the tens of thousands. He performed and recorded often with his father-in-law, Arturo Toscanini. He was a great champion of Rachmaninov's music, and was one of very few pianists worthy to be compared to the composer himself. He had some intriguing specialities like the music of Clementi. The bulk of his recordings were for RCA and Columbia, though he enjoyed an Indian Summer in his last four years recording for DG.
