Richard Desjardins: Influences

Richard Desjardins' working-class folk is imbued with the thoughtful tones of other earthy singer/songwriters. His use of sparsity to create gravitas in his songs recalls Springsteen's soft but weighty “My Father's House” and Leonard Cohen's “Joan of Arc”, with its delicately plucked strings. He also borrows deeply from the dramatic French chansons of Barbara and Jacques Brel, embracing the rhythm of his first language for a timeless sound.
