Marvin Sapp Essentials

With his powerhouse spirituals and barrel-chested voice, Marvin Sapp personifies contemporary soul-gospel music. The Michigan-born pastor was a relative unknown in the early '90s when gospel great Fred Hammond invited him to sing with the legendary group Commissioned. After that outfit disbanded in '96, Sapp launched a wildly successful solo career, releasing numerous albums filled with dynamic and punchy R&B, church-filling backup voices, and messages of hope and reclamation. His 2010 LP Here I Am was the all-time highest charting gospel album on Billboard's Top 200 chart, peaking at No. 2.
