Karabo Poppy: Africa Month

Karabo Poppy: Africa Month

A Johannesburg-based illustrator, street artist and designer with a growing global reach, Karabo Poppy proudly captures an African aesthetic in this personal playlist celebrating Africa Month. “[Africa] has a long, rich heritage rooted in constant innovation and hybridity,” she tells Apple Music. Expressions of the everyday and the unrepresented draw her in the most. “I see this strongly represented within the music of the diverse artists I have chosen,” she says. “One can hear contemporary and traditional expressions of my home continent here, dating from Brenda Fassie back then to Sho Madjozi now. Through their music I feel like I can hear what I see and feel within the African aesthetic and what I hope to always achieve in my art.”
