Not just a pop singer, Johanna Kurkela is also a multitalented musician who plays classical piano and violin. Her debut was released in 2005 but the big breakthrough came following her appearance at the 2007 Eurovision Song Contest. “Olet Uneni Kaunein” showcased her soft, airy soprano and use of folk melodies under a lush orchestral production. Her fourth album topped the charts with acoustic pop songs filled with piano and strings, as on display in the single “Rakkauslaulu”. Besides her talent for sensitive ballads she can also rock an anthemic guitar tune, as “Tuo Se Mulle” readily shows.
